With the Adept's no longer in danger of being controlled, they are free to bring chaos into the world, and Gunvolt can not stop their uprising. Defeating Project Muse's leader, Nova Tsukuyomi, Sumeragi's plan to use the Muse crumbled, and their grip on national peace from Adepts loosened. Where Sumeragi would carry out their plan to broadcast Joule's Septima, "The Muse", across the entire world. Being found out, Sumeragi recaptures Joule, as Gunvolt is forced to give chase to Sumeragi's orbital elevator, "Babel". He then disobeys orders to save her and leaves QUILL.īut his fight was not over, Sumeragi would use everything in their power to retrieve their virtual canary, and, in order to stop Sumeragi's actions for good, Gunvolt continued to work for QUILL through freelancer mercenary contracts, completing various missions to hinder their goals. When Gunvolt nearly completes his final mission to destroy Lumen, he finds out that Lumen is a Septima of a young girl named Joule. He then continued to work at the organization known as QUILL, whose goal is to take down the Sumeragi Group, which plans to control all the Adepts of the world to rule over it with the power of a computer program called Lumen. He was later transferred to another Sumeragi research facility, where Asimov supposedly saved him and thus he came to see Asimov as a father figure. However, upon activating his power for the first time, he involuntarily released a massive blast of lightning that vaporized the entire research facility and its team of scientists - Dr.Kamizono ( Copen's father) being among the casualties of this incident. This project was known as "Project Gunvolt", and he was regarded as one of the few to be successfully compatible with the Septima. Orphaned at a young age, he was captured by the Sumeragi Group and forced to participate in their inhumane experimentation projects at S-FIT, which involved implanting human beings with the gene possessing the strongest Septima known as "Azure Thunderclap", the ability to manipulate and control electrical energy. Information about Gunvolt's past is largely obscured in mystery.
